Vancouver Calligrapher and Engraver Michelle Wong

About

Hi! This is Michelle and I’m a Vancouver based calligrapher / engraver who started learning calligraphy since 2016. It was during an extremely stressful time of my life due to the illness of family member and I was looking for a creative outlet to help relax myself and get through the tough times. Since then I’ve been in love with calligraphy. It is such a great therapy that does magic to my mental health, and it is also an art that is full of potential for me to explore my creativity. There are so much you can do with calligraphy and I feel great every time I create something with it!

I’m inspired by so many talented artists since I started this calligraphy journey and the encouragement and appreciation that I get from them helps me stay positive a lot of the times. The Dancing Strokes (my IG!) captures how far I’ve come since 2016, and it’s also a platform for me to express myself as well as to motivate and inspire people through my lettering pieces (my dancing strokes!), and hopefully to give back to the community where I get my inspiration from.

I believe we are all creative in some way. You don’t need to have nice handwriting or any art related background to master calligraphy (I’m in Science by the way :). All you need is practice, just like anything else. I’d like to share my passion with someone like you who also appreciate this form of art. Let’s connect!
